There’s something special about Sundays, (or your chosen day) some people like Thursdays, a night to themselves to prep before the weekend ahead. Shannen likes Sundays, a quiet pause before the week begins. Sometimes she does do the full lot, skin, hair wash & treatment, nails…etc!
A space to soften, reset, and reconnect with yourself. Creating a simple, intentional skin ritual at home is one of the most grounding ways to honour that pause — and it doesn’t need to be complicated or time-consuming to feel luxurious.
Here’s how to curate your own spa-moment at home, using thoughtful steps that bring calm, clarity, and that signature SK glow.
Set the Mood — Slow, Soft, and intentional
Before you even touch your skincare, shift the energy of your space. Shannen likes to use only lamps, in the evening - no overhead lights, and like to play her favourite acoustic Spotify playlist!
Dim the lights. Light your favourite incense or candle (Gentle Habits is beautiful for this). Put on something comfortable — maybe your robe, slippers, or a fresh towel wrapped around you. Think of this moment as a reset, not a routine.
A self care ritual isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence.
Begin with a Clean Slate
Start with a gentle cleanse to remove the week from your skin — makeup, SPF, pollution, and the unseen layers of stress. We recommend our personal favourite ‘The Secret Skincare - Cleansing Balm’.
Use slow, intentional movements. Massage along the jawline, around the temples, down the neck. Even massaging the eyelashes to get rid of mascara build up. Let your cleanser become a moment of release rather than a quick splash. Shannen likes to use a soft clean muslin cloth to help with the removal process.
If your skin needs a deeper refresh, follow with a mild enzyme exfoliant. This step helps smooth texture, brighten dullness, and prepare your skin for the nourishment to come. Products we recommend for this is our INSKIN CO. ‘Foaming Enzyme Cleanser’, ‘Powder Exfoliant’ and/or ‘The Secret Skincare Enzyme Mask’.
Steam & Breathe
If you have a facial steamer, use it here — or simply lean over a warm bowl of water with a towel overhead. Or even just a warm compress towel will do just fine.
Steam softens congestion, boosts circulation, and creates that “spa” feeling instantly. It also relaxes your pores & follicles allowing for better product absorption.
As you steam, breathe deeply. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Your nervous system will love you for it.
Hot tip: add one drop of your favourite calming essential oil into your hot towel or water bowl.
Hydrate & Treat
Now your skin is primed to absorb all the goodness.
Apply a hydrating serum — something rich in hyaluronic acid or calming botanicals. Press it in with your fingertips.
This is where your chosen SK products truly shine. (Think The Secret Hydrating Serum, INSKIN CO Vitamin C, Bakuchiol & B3).
Follow with your favourite targeted treatment:
A brightening serum if your skin feels dull (Vitamin C)
A barrier-supporting formula if you’re feeling dry (Bakuchiol)
A calming serum for stressed or sensitised skin (Vitamin B & D)
If you use a mask, this is the perfect moment. Apply generously and let it sit while you rest, read, or journal. WE LOVE the INSKIN CO plump & hydrate packs — you get 30 in a pack, so it should technically last you 30 weeks if you’re using them once a week as a little skin treat! For RRP $55, that’s only $1.80 per sheet mask!
Gua Sha or Facial Massage for Deep Relaxation
Use your gua sha stone or facial roller with a nourishing face oil. If you don’t have one, the magic of your hands will do just fine—we can recommend using our ‘The Secret Skincare - Face oil’ for this, the signature scent smells divine.
Work in upward, slow strokes:
Along the jawline
Up the cheeks
Across the brow
Down the neck for lymphatic flow
This lifts, sculpts, de-puffs, and releases tension you didn’t know you were holding — but more importantly, it reconnects you with yourself.
Seal in the Glow
Finish with a moisturiser to lock in hydration, followed by your favourite nourishing oil if your skin needs extra comfort.
Press, don’t rub - everything into your skin. Soft hands, soft face.
If it’s daytime, finish with SPF. If it’s evening, simply enjoy the glow.
A Ritual of Reconnection
A Sunday skin ritual isn’t about the products alone — it’s about the energy you bring into the moment.
It’s your weekly pause. Your reminder to slow down. Your way of honouring your skin, your body, and your nervous system. It’s Shannen’s favourite day of the week, and she genuinely looks forward to it!
